UFI operates a laboratory, staffed by highly qualified professionals, to provide research-quality analytical chemistry services. Our clients include local, state, and federal agencies, commercial organizations, research institutions, and lake stakeholders. In addition to supporting in-house research, UFI's laboratory plays a critical role in our mission to advance freshwater science.

Certifications and Commitment to Excellence

UFI's laboratory is certified by the New York State Department of Health's Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Program (ELAP) and adheres to National Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Conference (NELAC/NELAP) standards for non-potable and drinking waters. UFI has been an approved laboratory since 1994 (NY Laboratory ID No. 11462; EPA Laboratory Code NY01276). Our laboratory undergoes regular proficiency testing through the New York State Department of Health to ensure the highest standards of accuracy and reliability.

Special Programs

UFI is proud to serve as the official laboratory for the Citizen Statewide Lake Assessment Program (CSLAP), a collaborative volunteer-based initiative led by the New York State Federation of Lake Associations and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation. Since the early 2000s, our team has analyzed thousands of water samples annually, delivering reliable and accurate results to empower lake stakeholders and inform water quality management.
